Major General Atef Moftah draws attention to the establishment of another museum next to the Great Museum, the Museum of King Khufu Boats.

And he continues: “We finished the scientific study of the transfer of the boat in a year, in order to be assured of the transfer of the largest remaining organic trace in history. The length of the King Khufu I boat is about 44 meters, its height is 8 meters and its width is 6 meters, and one piece will be transferred to the new museum in an engineering efficiency. He added: “As for the second boat of King Khufu, it is currently being extracted from the ground, as a joint Egyptian-Japanese archaeological mission has been working for 14 years to extract it, and it remains in its mission for about 4 years until the extraction and restoration is done, given that it is in a bad condition as it is buried in the ground.” Earth thousands of years ago.

And the first boat of King Khufu was made of cedar wood that was imported from Lebanon, and it was found preserved in a pit covered with about 41 blocks of limestone, and disassembled into about 6,500 parts that were carefully arranged with each other to make it easier to assemble. , and the legends.

Opinions go that the ancient Egyptians made this boat for the king to use on his daily journeys with the sun god “Ra” in the heavens of the world by day and the sky of the other world at night, while other opinions went that the boat was used to transport the king’s body from the eastern bank of the Nile to the western bank where he was buried .

At a time when the Grand Egyptian Museum contains more than 100,000 artifacts, of which only about 20,000 are displayed, the important question arises: Where are they located, where are the rest of the pieces? The supervisor of the museum answers, saying: “We have secure warehouses of the latest models to preserve the antiquities that are outside the museum display.”

And he added, “These antiquities will not only be preserved, but the warehouses are set up to be more like research halls, where researchers and scholars work on these preserved pieces. We can say that they are “scientific stores” and not like traditional warehouses in which only the pieces are kept.”

Major General Atef Moftah points out that the warehouses are classified on a basis that takes into account the quality of antiquities. For example, there are warehouses for antiques made of organic materials such as wood and leather, and other stores for minerals and stones.

The General Supervisor of the Grand Egyptian Museum concludes his speech by referring to the official opening date of the museum and the accompanying celebration, as he says that the purpose of this opening is to restore Egyptian tourism from all countries of the world, noting that this goal will be achieved in conjunction with the end of the Corona pandemic, which caused unrest. In the travel and tourism industry, “the opening date depends on the end of the crisis.”
